Bleep test
The bleep test is a common way to test fitness levels of a group of participants. The test involves continuously running back and fourth between two lines 20m apart in time within the CD player.
How to conduct the test:
- The participant should stand behind one of the lines facing the second line and begin to jogging when instructed by the CD player.
-The participant should continue running between the two lines and turn when signaled by the recorded beeps.
-After about one minute, a sound indicates an increase in speed and the beeps will be closer together. This continues each minute (level).
-If the line is reached before the beep sounds, the subject must wait until the beep sounds before continuing.
-If the line is not reached before the beep sounds, the subject is given a warning and must continue to run to the line, then turn and try to catch up with the pace within two more ‘beeps’.
-The test is stopped if the subject fails to reach the line (within 2 meters) for two consecutive ends after a warning.
Resources required:
- Cones
- 20m measuring tape
-CD
-CD player
- Partner
Advantages:
- The test can be conducted indoors and outdoors.
- Numerous of people can conduct the test.
- The test is easy to set up.
Disadvantages:
- There has to be partner involved to record the time to make sure the test is reliable.
- There are specialist equipment required.
Reliability:
The test's reliability applies to level in which a test is consistent and stable in measuring what it is intended to measure. "Reliability will depend on how the test is carried out and the individual's level of motivation to perform the test" (Brian Mac- Bleep test, 2013).
From this website, I have learnt that reliability is being able to show dependable results as well as them being consistent.
Validity:
"The test's validity relates to the degree in which the test actually measures and what it claims to measure. This test provides a mean to monitor the effect of training on the athlete's physical development" (Brian Mac- Bleep test, 2013).
From this website, I have learnt that validity is a measurement method and it is there to make sure that what you are measuring is what is supposed to be measured.
